15.11.24

 Year 6,

This week you have revised figurative language and applied this to ‘The Promise’ in English, and you have added and subtracted fractions after converting them. In science, you began your new topic of Animals including Humans, and learnt about the heart and the circulatory system. You used stethoscopes to listen to your hearts, and you considered the movement of blood around the body. In PSHE, we have recognised Anti-Bullying Week, with a BBC live lesson on Tuesday, and subsequent lessons on the topic this afternoon. We also discussed what your donations of money might go towards with Children in Need, and you completed maths problems relating to this. In RE, you learnt about the interior of Buddhist temples and the significance of some elements. You have also been working extremely hard on your handwriting in our timed sessions.

This week your home learning pages are:

-        Maths – 8 and 21

-        Grammar – 32 and 33

Next week, you will continue to work on calculating with fractions, and in English you will be using figurative language to write poetry based on the book. In science, you will be learning about blood, and you will have a STEM talk too. In computing, you will consider how you can use a network to collaborate on a piece of work – using the Chromebooks to do so.

Half term project - Amazing Authors!

This half term’s task requires you to become an amazing author. You are able to free-write on a topic of your choosing or using the picture that I have provided. Your writing can be typed or handwritten but must be your work. You can write fiction or non-fiction (e.g. a biography on your favourite footballer), 1st or 3rd person, past or present tense – depending on what you prefer. This is all about you writing in a style that you like!

I do however, have some expectations: minimum 500 words, maximum 3 pages, writing that has been edited in the same way that we do in class – spellings, varied sentences, vocabulary choice and I’ll say it again - it must be your own work!

Your project is due on Monday 16th December 2024 where you will have a chance to enjoy each other’s stories in small groups.

Reminders

You have PE on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday so make sure you have your kits in on these days.

  You should be:

 -        Reading 5 times a week and completing a reading journal activity once a week

 -        Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test; writing spellings at least 5 times and writing them into sentences in your Home Learning Journal (set on Monday and completed for Friday)

 -        Completing the piece of English and piece of Maths set each week (set on Wednesday and completed for Monday)

 -        Practising maths on Sumdog (well done to those who participated in the competition!)

Have a lovely, restful break and see you all when we return.

Mrs Cresswell 😊
