Year 6,
What a first week back! I saw a number of you on Saturday and thank you for your support with the fireworks event. Thinking about the usual week you have covered a lot. In English, you have begun working
on The Promise (making promises of your own, considering verbs and nouns, and
writing diary entries). In maths, you have been finding equivalent fractions
and comparing and ordering them. In science, you formed field guides on the
ground of Little Heath using classification. In RE, you looked for symbolism in
the exterior of Buddhist temples.
Next week, you will continue to work on ‘The Promise’ in English
and will be calculating with fractions in maths. In RE, you will look at
symbolism in the interior of Buddhist temples. It is also Anti-Bullying Week
next week so we will be working on that too.
This week your home learning pages are:
-
Maths – 7 and 25
-
Grammar – 6 and 7
Linking with PSHE and online safety, please share the below
message with your parents as we are aware of lots of people enjoying online
games.
I wanted
to reach out regarding online gaming, as I know it’s a popular activity for
many children in our class. Some of the games they’re enjoying, like Fortnite,
are actually designed for older players (aged 13+). Others, like Roblox,
are widely used by this age group but also include online interaction features.
While
these games can be a great way for children to unwind and connect with friends,
they do present a risk of young people talking to strangers, which can
sometimes lead to language or content that isn’t ideal for their age. Playing
these games frequently or for long stretches can also sometimes make it
challenging for pupils to stay focused on schoolwork and other activities.
To help
ensure a safe and balanced experience with online games, I recommend taking a
look at the games your child plays and making sure they’re appropriate for
their age. Most devices—whether phones, tablets, or gaming consoles—include
options to manage safety settings, such as limiting chat features, setting time
limits, and controlling in-game purchases.
As
children grow older, they will naturally gain access to a wider range of
platforms, each with its own set of challenges. Social media, streaming
services, and more complex games often include online interactions, so staying
vigilant as your child explores these new spaces is essential.
Thank you
very much for your support in this area. If you have any questions or would
like guidance on setting up these controls, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Reminders
You
have PE on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday so make sure you have your kits in on
these days.
Next week, flu vaccines are happening for those registered. Adults can still register you. Remember that it is just a quick spray up the nose, no needles needed.
Have a
lovely, restful break and see you all when we return.
Mrs
Cresswell 😊
