Spellings wc14.10.24

This week, you have spellings focussed on turning root words into adjectives using the suffix -ous, alongside some commonly misspelt words for the extension. Please practise them on the practice sheet provided and put them into sentences in your Home Learning Journal.

Mrs Stevenson’s group have their individual spellings to be tested and reviewed on Friday. You are to complete the same tasks of practising on the sheet provided and putting them into sentences in your Home Learning Journal for Friday.

Your sentences and practice sheets will be checked on Friday. Please ensure you complete these with the focus you would have in class - avoiding spelling errors, making sure sentences make sense, and having the basics such as capital letters and full stops.

Please underline the spelling in each sentence.

11.10.24

 Year 6,

You have had quite the week. You have completed a set of SATs papers and you showed great determination and resilience in doing this. Well done for your attitude and thoughtful questions around SATs. These will be really useful for me to see what you are confident in and what we need to spend more time on. This week, you have also begun studying the eight-fold path in RE, considered how packets move across networks in Computing, and investigated crime and punishment in medieval and Tudor times in history (with an additional bit of learning on King Henry VIII as you were so interested). You also did incredibly well on Sumdog as a class, with a couple of you coming in the top 100 students in the competition of over 1000, and the class coming top on one day, and 3rd on another!

Next week will return to a more normal timetable.

In maths, you will be working on division in many different forms.

In English, you will work on your understanding of verbs in grammar, and will be using your new interest in natural disasters to research and plan an explanation text linked to them.

In RE, you will continue to study the 8-fold path in Buddhism.

History will involve the study of medieval crime and punishment in more detail.

In art, you will work on sketching mouths and apply what you have learnt so far for the sketching of facial features, and will begin creating self-portraits.

Your homework this weekend is found on pages 18-19 in maths and 12-13 in English.

You were also introduced to the BBC 500 word challenge this week. This is optional and to be completed at home, submitted by your adult if you wish. I have included the link to the information for you or your adult to look at if you are interested – some of you had great ideas in the lesson today.

All About Me project.

This project is to be completed over the next few weeks and the focus will be on presenting yourself to the world how you really want everyone to see you. There are many different ways that you may present this –as a poster and/or shoebox, or through a self-portrait but the choice really is yours. This project is an opportunity to share YOU and what makes you tick with your friends, so the more effort you put in, the better the final outcome will be and the more you will get out of this process. Just remember though, I will be disappointed if, after this length of time, you turn up with just a few items that you have grabbed together at the last minute or even just a scribbled note of paper written the night before the deadline. Enjoy the freedom that you have with this though and I really look forward to what you all produce at the end of it. The deadline for completion will be Monday 21st October, when you will be presenting your completed projects to the class.

Reminders

You have PE on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday so make sure you have your kits in on these days.

 You should be:

-        Reading 5 times a week and completing a reading journal activity once a week

-        Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test; writing spellings at least 5 times and writing them into sentences in your Home Learning Journal (set on Monday and completed for Friday)

-        Completing the piece of English and piece of Maths set each week (set on Wednesday and completed for Monday)

-        Practising maths on Sumdog

-        Completing the half termly project

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Cresswell 😊

4.10.24

 Year 6,

How have we already entered October? In maths, you have studied factors, square and cube numbers, and multiplication for four by two-digit numbers. In English, you have written some beautiful letters in the role of Siddhartha Gautama writing to his son. Science this week has involved some rather creative and terrifying new creatures and their classification. You also did an amazing job at the Harvest Festival.

Next week will also be busy.

In maths and English next week, we will be carrying out some assessments during the week in order to identify any areas of your learning in grammar, reading, arithmetic and mathematical reasoning to focus on for the rest of the term.

In computing, you will continue your work on networks and addresses.

In RE, you will study the 8-fold path in Buddhism.

History will involve the study of medieval crime and punishment.

In art, you will apply what you have learnt so far for the sketching of facial features, and will begin creating self-portraits.

Your homework this weekend is found on pages 16-17 in maths and 10-11 in English.
