25.10.24

 Year 6,

I say this every year at this point, and probably did to you this time last year, but I genuinely cannot believe how quick this half term has gone. Being a slightly longer half term than usual, I am sure that you are all as ready as we are for this break and I trust you will get plenty of rest before returning and the hard work continues.

It was a pleasure to speak to those of your parents who I managed to see this week, listening to your thoughts and getting to share with them the progress that you have already made so far in year 6. Now it is up to you to remember and work hard on meeting your targets for the rest of the year in order to achieve everything that you want to.

You have worked extremely hard this half term. This week alone, you have: written explanation texts in English; calculated with the order of operations and solved multi-step problems in maths; explored crime and punishment in the early modern period in history; drawn a self portrait in art; and shared some fantastic projects (those who haven’t yet will get to on the first couple of days back). But as you know, I am greedy and will be wanting even more hard work from you after the break!

In English when we return, we will begin more creative writing and poetry inspired by ‘The Promise’.

In maths, we will be moving onto working with fractions.

In our foundation subjects, we will be completing our history topic on crime and punishment by looking at the Victorian era, and then beginning our geography topic on population.

In computing, we will be learning about how web pages are formed and creating some of our own (no coding required at this point), considering the safety aspects alongside this.

We will be spending a couple of sessions on photomontages in art, and then move onto design and technology with a focus on fabrics and stitching to create an item.

This week I have set you your standard home learning, with pages 23 and 24 in maths and pages 4 and 5 in poetry comprehension. These are due on the Monday we return.

Reminders

On Saturday 2nd November, we are having our annual fireworks night - it would be great to see you there.

You have PE on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday so make sure you have your kits in on these days.

  You should be:

 -        Reading 5 times a week and completing a reading journal activity once a week

 -        Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test; writing spellings at least 5 times and writing them into sentences in your Home Learning Journal (set on Monday and completed for Friday)

 -        Completing the piece of English and piece of Maths set each week (set on Wednesday and completed for Monday)

 -        Practising maths on Sumdog

Have a lovely, restful break and see you all when we return.

Mrs Cresswell 😊
