This week you have worked with decimals in maths and have
worked on description and speech in English. In science, you completed our topic of light by learning about shadows and applying this to shadow puppet stories (pictures below). You also considered how
electricity has changed the way we live, and read about its origins. You have
considered how the Shang Dynasty may have ended in history, and had an amazing
experience when the mobile planetarium paid us a visit on Monday.
Next week, you will work with fractions, decimals and percentages in maths, and in English you will plan and begin writing your own story inspired by Paradise Sands. You will begin our new geography topic to do with energy, and will continue to learn about electricity in science. Next Monday, you will have a chance to create items (inspired by our history topic) out of clay, developing your skills in the process.
Today, I sent home your SATs papers from last half term - remember you already had the scores and results for these. I have also set your half term project.
Half term project - Super spellers!
This half term’s task requires you to become a super speller (and find a way to support others to become one too!) You are required to create a game which will support the class with their spellings. This could focus on the Year 3-4 and Year 5-6 spellings, or a few specific spelling rules. The game MUST come with answers and instructions on how to play.
Your project is due on Thursday 3rd April where you will have a chance to play each other's games in small groups or pairs.
I have sent you home with a booklet containing the spelling rules and year group spellings to support you in this and in any revision you choose to do.
Reminders
You should be:
- Reading 5 times a week and completing a reading journal activity once a week
- Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test; writing spellings at least 5 times and writing 10 of them into sentences (ensure that these are high quality and make sense) in your Home Learning Journal (set on Monday and completed for Friday)
- Completing the piece of English and piece of Maths set each week (set on Wednesday and completed for Monday)
- Practising maths on Sumdog
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Cresswell 😊
