13.3.26

Year 6,

This week you have continued with decimals and have continued to develop your arithmetic accuracy in maths. In English, you began reading and working on your new text ‘Boy in the Tower’. You also finished reading The Nowhere Emporium, which had everyone on the edge of their seats! In computing, you adapted variables in a game, and in geography you began the new topic all about energy. You also marked British Science Week with another fantastic workshop from Fab Science.

Next week, you will continue to work on decimals but now in combination with fractions and percentages. In English, you will be writing newspaper reports based on Boy in the Tower. You will continue to study electrical circuits in science and in geography you will consider the benefits and drawbacks of different energy sources.  On Tuesday afternoon, you will also have another Health Fair to enjoy.

I shared your project with you at the beginning of the half term; it is a lovely way to introduce yourself to you teacher for after Easter. Please see the instructions below, which are also in your Home Learning Journal.

Half term project - All About Me

This project is to be completed over the next few weeks and the focus will be on presenting yourself to the world how you really want everyone to see you. There are many different ways that you may present this –as a poster and/or shoebox, or through a self-portrait but the choice really is yours.

This project is an opportunity to share YOU and what makes you tick with your friends, so the more effort you put in, the better the final outcome will be and the more you will get out of this process. Just remember though, I will be disappointed if, after this length of time, you turn up with just a few items that you have grabbed together at the last minute or even just a scribbled note of paper written the night before the deadline.

Enjoy the freedom that you have with this though and I really look forward to what you all produce at the end of it. The deadline for completion will be Monday 23rd March, when you will be presenting your completed projects to the class.

You have also taken home your practice SATs papers from last half term. The scores and pass marks are below so that you can see how you did. Use the papers to see what needs working on. For those who I have kept the arithmetic from, your adults can ask for your scores if you did not already write them in your reading journal.

You need to add up the scores in maths to get your total and you need to add your grammar and spelling scores to get your SPAG total. Reading is a paper on its own.

Maths arithmetic   /40

Maths reasoning 1 /35

Maths reasoning 2 /35

Maths Total

 (Pass 58/110)

Reading  /50

(Pass 29/50)

SPaG  /50

Spelling

/20

Total SPAG

(Pass 35/70)

You should be:

 -        Reading 5 times a week and completing a reading journal activity once a week

 -        Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test; writing spellings at least 5 times and writing 10 of them into sentences (ensure that these are high quality and make sense) in your Home Learning Journal (set on Monday and completed for Friday)

 -        Completing the piece of English and piece of Maths set each week (set on Wednesday and completed for Monday)

 -        Practising maths on Sumdog

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Cresswell ðŸ˜Š
