Year 6,
This week you have had a wide range of things going on. In
English you have completed your instructions and have begun a new focus based
on the book ‘The Boy in the Tower’. In maths, you have continued to look at
decimals, this time multiplying and dividing them. In history, you considered
the lives of everyday people, writing diary entries in the process, and in
science you began a new topic of electricity. Alongside this, you also celebrated
World Book Day with some fantastic outfits (class photographs below) and a
visit and workshop by a poet.
Next week, you will continue to study decimals in maths and ‘The
Boy in the Tower’ in English. You will investigate electricity in a more
practical way in science and you will begin your new geography topic too.

I have shared this half term's project with you already as it is a short
half term and it is a lovely way to introduce yourself to you teacher for after
Easter. Please see the instructions below, which are also in your Home Learning
Journal.
Half term project - All About Me
This project is to be completed over the next few weeks and the focus
will be on presenting yourself to the world how you really want
everyone to see you. There are many different ways that you may present this
–as a poster and/or shoebox, or through a self-portrait but the choice really
is yours.
This project is an opportunity to share YOU and what makes you tick with
your friends, so the more effort you put in, the better the final outcome will
be and the more you will get out of this process. Just remember though, I will
be disappointed if, after this length of time, you turn up with just a few
items that you have grabbed together at the last minute or even just a
scribbled note of paper written the night before the deadline.
Enjoy the freedom that you have with this though and I really look forward
to what you all produce at the end of it. The deadline for completion will
be Monday 23rd March, when you will be presenting
your completed projects to the class.
You should be:
-
Reading 5 times a week and completing a reading journal activity once a week
-
Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test; writing spellings
at least 5 times and writing 10 of them into sentences (ensure that these are
high quality and make sense) in your Home Learning Journal (set on Monday and
completed for Friday)
-
Completing the piece of English and piece of Maths set each week (set on
Wednesday and completed for Monday)
-
Practising maths on Sumdog
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Cresswell 😊
