First full week in Year 6 😊

 

We have started our full curriculum learning this week and topics within our subjects have included

English - The Arrival by Shaun Tan

Maths – Powers of 10, 100 and 1000 Numbers to 10,000,000

Science – Carl Linnaeus and the classification system  

History – Crime and Punishment from the Romans through to the Medieval period

School Council

Year 6 members are Macy and Dionel with help from Sapphire and Ramtin

House Captains  

The voting for House Captains will take place on Thursday morning 17/09/26

Homework

Each child has received a clear, named folder containing their homework. Homework will be given every Friday and collected in on Monday. Please return the folder with the completed homework. I realise on some occasions a Monday return maybe impossible in that case, please return the homework by Wednesday in order for it to be marked. Thank you

 

Spellings

Children should know the spelling and meaning of the words and  be able to place them within a sentence. 

What is the difference between practice and practise?

In British English, practice is a noun and practise is a verb.

1 used as an uncountable noun

Practice involves doing something regularly in order to improve your ability at it.

Your skiing will get better with practice.

He has to do a lot of music practice.

2 used as a countable noun

A practice is something that is done regularly, for example as a custom.

Our usual practice is to keep a written record of all meetings.

The ancient practice of yoga is still popular today.

3 used as a verb

If you practise something, you do it or take part in it regularly.

I had been practising the piece for months.

His family practised traditional Judaism.
